I’m Devang Shah, Pete Fosselman’s campaign chair for his race for the Montgomery County Council District 1. I took on this responsibility because I have no doubt he is the best person for this position and is the most qualified candidate in this race. Please take a moment to examine his proven track record of service for Montgomery County and the State of Maryland.

Pete was elected the Mayor of Kensington in 2006 and went on to serve four more terms. He updated restrictive liquor laws, modernized zoning regulations, and chaperoned the Town’s master plan through the County’s approval process. These changes could not have been implemented without his knowledge of zoning, dedication, and ability to turn principles into sensible policies. Pete has shown he lives up to his reputation as a consensus builder which is what the County needs most at this time.

Pete served the people of Maryland as Deputy Secretary of State, a position he was appointed to by Governor Martin O’Malley, who has endorsed Pete, along with the Montgomery County Public Schools Retirees Association; as well as several community leaders. As Deputy Secretary, Pete oversaw the Maryland Charity Campaign, prisoner extraditions, and the Safe at Home Program, which aids victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.

Pete has worked across the public and private sectors to make the lives of Montgomery County residents better. He’s served in elected and appointed government positions, started two small businesses, supported sustainable planning strategies for the County, and led the Maryland Mayors’ Association as their President.

Pete’s liberal and inclusive social views, matched with his awareness of fiscal responsibility, are exactly what Montgomery County needs. Please join me in helping elect Pete Fosselman to the County Council in District 1 by contributing or volunteering.
